The Still House Group was an artist-run organization based in New York, with locations in Red Hook, Chinatown, and the South Bronx.
Still House supported a network of artists, providing them with a shared environment
to conceptualize, produce, and exhibit their work. Merging artist, studio, and gallery, the group was
defined by its collaborative format. By promoting active dialogues amongst its artists, Still House
established a critical setting for the growth of individual ideas within a collective context.
Founded in 2007 by Isaac Brest and Alex Perweiler as an online viewing platform, the group soon
recognized a need to exercise its exhibitions practice in a physical space of its own. In 2010, Still
House conducted an eight-month residency in the former Department of Transportation offices in
TriBeCa, and has since built a permanent, multifaceted arts facility in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The
group and its members have subsequently completed projects in a Chinese shopping mall, museums
in Italy and Belgium, an abandoned daycare center in Athens, and a London-based private art
foundation.
Still House maintained regular programming across its various sites, featuring solo and group exhibitions,
seminars, and performances. The implementation of a rotating residency program fostered
emerging international talent by providing free studio space, opportunity for discourse, and production
resources, culminating in a solo exhibition at the end of a three-month term. In January
2015, Still House opened its first independent exhibition space at 3 Howard Street in Chinatown,
offering a formal platform for members to present new work and engage with a broad audience.
